From customer reality to smart innovation: How QleanAir shapes industrial air cleaning

The metal industry is developing rapidly – with higher production rates, new materials and processes, and stricter demands on quality, sustainability, and the working environment, something most companies in the industry already work proactively with.

As processes become more complex, clean air is becoming an increasingly important part of a modern and future-proof production. Clean air is important to ensure both high‑quality products and efficient processes, but not least to secure an attractive working environment. This is where QleanAir plays an active role as a partner to its customers. By working closely with customers, directly in their environments, solutions are developed based on real needs.

“We have built our innovation capability in close collaboration with customers, so that we can truly pinpoint the need and develop the right solutions.”

– Sebastian Lindström, CEO of QleanAir.

Complex industrial challenges call for innovative thinking

In environments such as metalworking, foundries, workshops, and other industrial settings, various types of airborne particles occur, such as oil mist, welding fumes, dust, and emissions depending on the processes, materials, and machinery involved. No production environment is the same.

As an industry partner, QleanAir has long experience with varied environments and needs – from improving air quality for operators to contributing to longer machine life through effective reduction of particle levels. By being attentive to the customers’ day‑to‑day reality and working on‑site in real environments, solutions are developed where they have the greatest impact.

“What matters most to us is that our solutions make a difference in the customer’s everyday operations. When you can see a true improvement in process efficiency, cleaner products, and above all, a better working environment – that’s when we have succeeded.”

– Johan Billing, Product Manager for industrial air cleaners at QleanAir.

Innovation built on close dialogue

QleanAir’s innovation work starts in the real world. The company’s sales and service technicians meet customers daily across industries such as manufacturing and logistics, capturing recurring needs. When a clear challenge is identified, dedicated close collaborations are established separately but with a selection of customers who share the same challenge.

Together, a thorough analysis of the situation is carried out – which factors affect air quality, what consequences it has, and how the problem behaves over time.

“That’s when we understand the entire picture of the situation and not just the symptoms,” says Sebastian.

Engineers and product teams then develop several solution paths, which are tested with pilot customers in real operating conditions. The tests are repeated, and customer feedback is incorporated at every step. Once the solution is validated, productification follows, including the service concept and commercial offering. Today, there is a wide range of air cleaners adapted for different industries and types of air pollutants, and the solutions themselves can be tailored to each new customer’s specific conditions. The flexibility of the products allows them to be adapted as customer needs change over time.

“The customers’ real needs are the driving force behind every new solution we bring to market. Our innovation work is reality‑driven – which is why the results are technically solid and practically relevant.”

– Johan Billing, Product Manager for industrial air cleaners at QleanAir.

Case: Air cleaner for oil mist – developed together with customer in Germany

A concrete example is the collaboration with F.u.G. LINDEN Drehtechnik in Marienheide, Germany. The company faced challenges with oil mist and needed an efficient solution that would not take up unnecessary space.

“During machining, a lot of oil mist is generated. We wanted to improve the working environment while also reducing contamination on machines and in the surroundings,” says Sabine Neumann, CEO of F.u.G. LINDEN.

Together, the needs were analyzed, and the FS 70 Oil Mist air cleaner was developed and tested in real‑world operation. The results were clear:

“Shortly after the installation, a clear improvement in air quality was noticeable. The air became cleaner, it became easier to breathe, and the mist disappeared.”

– Sabine Neumann, CEO of F.u.G. LINDEN.

The FS 70 Oil Mist air cleaner is unique because it can be used as secondary filtration to complement source extraction and capture mist that spreads when machine doors are opened – or as a standalone solution in facilities with older machines where source extraction is lacking or cannot be installed. The collaboration has led to broad implementation among other metalworking operations in Europe and Asia.

New Launch: Complementing the range with a ceiling‑mounted air cleaner for limited floor space

Many industrial customers share the same challenge but have limited floor space. Therefore, QleanAir is now complementing the FS 70 Oil Mist with a ceiling‑mounted model, the FS 60 Oil Mist, which frees up floor area and provides flexibility in dynamic production environments.

Up to 99% filtration of oil mist

The ceiling‑mounted solution is lightweight, energy‑efficient, and uses multi‑stage filtration that removes up to 99% of oil mist, depending on configuration and operating conditions.
